PGC announces pageant court members

The Pilgrimage Garden Club has named the pages and court members for the 2001 Historic Natchez Pageant.

These court members will serve with Queen Anna Catesby McGehee and King Edgar Hyde Carby.

Mary Virginia Barnett, the daughter of Mrs. John Nisbett Barnett (Suellen) and the late Mr. John Nisbett Barnett and the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nisbett Arthur Barnett of Natchez, the late Mr. Albert Robert Johnston of Baton Rouge, La., and Mrs. Albert R. Johnston of Bunkie, La.

Miss Barnett graduated from Cathedral High School in 1998 and currently attends Ole Miss, where she majors in business. She has been on the Dean’s List.

Her hobbies include exercising, reading and music. Her previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, The Wedding and Polka.

Vicki Kirkpatrick Bobo, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Glenn Green of Natchez and Mr. and Mrs. Fincher Gist Bobo of Clarksdale and the granddaughter of Dr. Kenneth Ott Williams and Nadine Netterville Williams of Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eager Bobo of Clarksdale.

Miss Bobo graduated from Lee Academy in Clarksdale in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where she majors in magazine journalism.

Her honors and activities include the Kappa Delta Sorority and the Golden Key Honor Society.

Her hobbies include tennis, snow skiing and painting.

Madeline Laura England, the daughter of Dr. Leslie E. England of Natchez and Mrs. Mary Lou England of Bradenton, Fla., and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie L. England of New Orleans and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lampert, also of New Orleans.

Miss England graduated from Indian Springs School in Birmingham, Ala., in 1998 and currently attends Mount Holyoke College, where she majors in economics and music.

Her honors, activities and organizations include the Andy Abroms Memorial Award (in high school – for summer study at Tufts University), the college speech and debate aociety, the photography club and the economics society.

Her hobbies include traveling, photography, running, playing tennis, going to jazz clubs, concerts and theater productions. Her previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Polka Favor Girl and Fanny Essler Troupe.

Jessica Birard Fortenberry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fortenberry and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delton Porter and the late Henry F. Byrne and Mrs. William Fortenberry and the late Mr. Fortenberry.

Miss Fortenberry graduated from Trinity in 1998 and currently attends Louisiana State University, where she majors in mass communication.

At Trinity, she won the National Citizenship Award, was a cheerleader, was a member of the National Honor Society and the Key Club, was a senior homecoming maid and was class favorite. At LSU, she was on the Dean’s List.

Her hobbies include traveling, reading, working with children and being a community volunteer. Her previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Polka and Bride in the Bride’s Farewell.

Katherine (Katie) Carr Greer, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Joseph Meng III, of Natchez and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Albright Greer of Mobile, Ala., and the granddaughter of Mrs. Emmett R. Jones and the late Emmett R. Jones of Mobile, Ala., (formerly from Natchez) and Mr. J. Barton Greer and the late Betty Greer, also of Mobile.

Miss Greer graduated from St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mobile, Ala. in 1998 and currently attends LSU, where she majors in kinesiology.

Her honors, organizations and activities include: Chi Omega Social sorority; Campus Crusade for Christ; kinesiology club; Alpha Lambda Delta honor society; Phi Eta Sigma honor society; Golden Key Honor Society; and Adopt-A-School.

Her hobbies include snow skiing, water sports and traveling.

Stacy Marie McGraw, the daughter of Yates and Marci McGraw and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rogers McGraw of Woodville and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Lee of Kismet, Kan.

Miss McGraw graduated from Cathedral in 1998 and currently attends LSU, where she is majoring in nursing.

At Cathedral, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the softball team and the homecoming court. At LSU, she has been on the Dean’s List every semester, a two-year member of Delta Zeta Sorority and is a member of St. Mary Basilica.

Her hobbies include traveling and outdoor activities. Her previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, a can-can dancer in &uot;Under-the-Hill&uot; and Polka.

Amanda Tate Poole, the daughter of Bill and Bette Poole of Brandon and Mr. and Mrs. William Kendall Poole and the granddaughter of Agnes Wilson Foster and the late T.J. Foster of Natchez and Ruby Butler Poole and the late H.T. Poole, Sr., of Bienville, La., and Brandon.

Miss Poole graduated from Northwest Rankin High School in Brandon in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where she majors in Business Administration with Merchandising and Design Emphasis. She will study in Spain for a term and will intern in New York city for her degree.

At the University of Mississippi, she is a member of Phi Mu Sorority. An eighth-generation Mississippian, she was active in the Children of the American Revolution, serving as president of the local society and vice president of the state society. She swam competitively with the Sunkist Swim Team and qualified to attend regional competition with the Mississippi team. For seven years she was a cheerleader on a state and nationally ranked squad and she was an All-American cheerleader for four years. She attended American Legion Girls State and was a page for Gov. Kirk Fordice.

Her hobbies include swimming, tumbling, photography, fashion design and snow skiing. Her previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, May Festival and the Showboat.

Carrie Howell Pugh, the daughter of Paula Parker Pugh and Jack Jolly Pugh III and the granddaughter of the late Hicks and Juanita Parker of Natchez and the late Jack and Mozelle Pugh of Brooksville.

Miss Pugh graduated from Trinity Episcopal in 1998, attended Mississippi State University and transferred to the University of Mississippi in the spring, where she majors in speech pathology.

Her honors and activities include the Delta Gamma Sorority, the Dean’s List and a volunteer in eye testing.

Her previous Pageant participation includes Polka and was a substitute for the court.

Ella Grafton Scarbrough, the daughter of Roberta G. Raworth and Jan M. Scarbrough and the granddaughter of Mrs. Mabel C. Raworth and the late Malcolm D. Raworth of Natchez and Mrs. Hilda M. Scarbrough and the late William M. Scarbrough of Meadville.

Miss Grafton attended Boulder (Colo.) High School and graduated from St. Andrews Episcopal in 1998. She is currently attending Colorado State University, where she majors in technical journalism.

She is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, a volunteer for Adopt-A-School fourth-grade class, and an employee of the &uot;Collegian&uot; newspaper of Colorado State University.

Her hobbies include hiking, snow skiing and tennis.

Her previous Pageant participation was Little Maypole.

David Matthews Axelrod, the son of Larry Axelrod and Marsha Colson and the grandson of Mrs. Devereux Slatter of Natchez and Mrs. Pearl Axelrod of Delray Beach, Fla., and the late Dr. Morris Axelrod.

Mr. Axelrod graduated from Trinity in 1998 and is currently attending Co-Lin Natchez.

His hobbies include hiking, traveling, football, music and movies.

His previous Pageant participation includes Polka and Wedding Court.

Julius Carter Burns, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter T. Burns, Jr. and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Julius M. Carter of Woodville and Mr. and Mrs. Peter T. Burns Sr. of Natchez.

Mr. Burns graduated from Trinity Episcopal Day School in 1998 and currently attends Millsaps College in Jackson, where he majors in English and has a minor in business administration.

At Trinity, he was an honor graduate, salutatorian, a DAR Good Citizen, a member of the National Honor Society, the Key Club and the Mayor’s Youth Council, and lettered in tennis. At Millsaps, he has been a Second Century scholar, a recipient of the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship, a past vice president and philanthropy chairman and is current social chair of Lambda Chi Alpha, an Interfraternal Council Judicial Council member and vice president of the English Club. His hobbies are tennis and hunting.

His previous Pageant participation includes being Page to Queen Joey Finley and King Andrew Cuthbertson; Little Maypole; Big Maypole; Raising of the Flag; the Polka; Soiree – lead, senior year; and groomsman in Bride’s Farewell.

John Kaiser Harriss, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard T. Harriss III, the grandson of Mrs. Levon Smith Jr. and the late F. Levon Smith Jr., Mrs. Laura M. Bishop, the late Richard T. Harriss Jr. and the great-grandson of Mrs. F. Levon Smith Sr.

Mr. Harriss graduated with honors from Trinity Episcopal High School in 1998 and currently attends Millsaps College, where he majors in Chemistry ACS. He is a member of Circle K, Americorps Tutoring, Millsaps Campus Ministry Team and tutors at the Mississippi School for the Blind. His hobbies include hunting, snow skiing, golf, tennis and water sports.

His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Paige (1986), Raising of the Flag, Soiree, portraying Jefferson Davis in The Wedding and Court 2000.

William Patrick Henry, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Henry and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Walton Gresham Jr., of Indianola and Mrs. Carl P. Henry and the late Mr. Carl P. Henry of Natchitoches, La.

Mr. Henry graduated from Cathedral High School in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where he majors in history.

He is an officer in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society and a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society.

His hobbies include acting, music (plays drums), jogging and water skiing. His previous Pageant participation includes dancing in Polka.

Clifton Haywood Hinson, the son of Mimi Swinny Hinson and Ted M. Hinson and the grandson of Mrs. James H. Swinny and the late James H. Swinny of Natchez and Mrs. John Clifton Hinson and the late Mr. John Clifton Hinson of Natchez.

Mr. Hinson graduated from ACCS in 1998, attended Co-Lin Natchez and Mississippi State University, where he majored in business, is currently in the U.S. Army at Fort Polk, La., and enrolled in Texas College while at Fort Polk, where he is studying business, banking and finance.

At ACCS, he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, played on the varsity football, track and golf teams and was on the Who’s Who Among High School Students.

His hobbies include hunting, gun collecting, wildlife photography, fishing and golf.

His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Under the Hill, Polka, Court substitute – Spots: Fisher Boy – Confederate Flag runner.

Jerald David Junkin Jr., the son of Jerry and Becky Junkin and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Martin of Natchez and the late Mr. and Mrs. Will Ramsey of Natchez.

Mr. Junkin graduated from Cathedral in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where he majors in insurance and finance.

He played on the Co-Lin football team and is a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

His hobbies are hunting and fishing.

His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Raising of the Flag and American Flag Bearer.

Charles Stephen Plauch\u00E9 Jr., the son of Charles S. Plauch\u00E9 and Susan N. Plauch\u00E9 and the grandson of Elizabeth D. Nielson and the late Jack H. Nielson of New Orleans and Dorothy S. Plauch\u00E9 and the late Locke A. Plauch\u00E9 of Lake Charles, La.

Mr. Plauch\u00E9 graduated from Natchez High School in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where he majors in business and finance.

He has been an Eagle Scout, on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, a member of the Phi Beta Phi Honor Society and the National Honor Society, a volunteer for Leap Frog Kids tutoring program, a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, member of the rush committee, an alumni committee member of the Ole Miss Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a member of the Financer’s Club at Ole Miss.

His hobbies include tennis, golf and hunting.

His previous Pageant participation includes Big Maypole, Flag Raising, Polka, Soiree, The Hunt and The Wedding.

Calvit Alexander Ratcliffe, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everette Ratcliffe and the grandson of Mrs. Charles Everette Ratcliffe and the late Charles E. Ratcliffe and the late Mrs. Ora Alexander and Harold Case, all of Natchez.

Mr. Ratcliffe graduated from Trinity Episcopal in 1998 and currently attends the University of Mississippi, where he majors in political science.

At Trinity, he was a member of the football, baseball and basketball teams, as well as Key Club and the National Honor Society. He is currently a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and serves as intra-murals chairman. He is also a member of the Pre-Law Society, College Republicans and the Ole Miss Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

His hobbies are hunting and fishing. His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, wheel roller in The Showboat, The Hunt and the Polka.

William Percy Rountree is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Lyle Rountree and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. P.T. Rountree of Vidalia and Mrs. W.R. Ellis and the late Mr. W.R. Ellis of Lexington.

Mr. Rountree graduated from Cathedral in 1998 and currently attends LSU, where he majors in agricultural business with a minor in business administration.

At Cathedral, he was voted Mr. Cathedral High School and Most Dependable. He was recipient of the Christian Service Award, the American Legion Award and the CARE Award. He was president of the Student Council for two years and a member of the retreat team. He lettered in football and baseball

At LSU, he is a member of Kappa Alpha Social Fraternity and has served for two years as the Social Chairman. He was a recipient of a Kappa Alpha Scholarship for leadership and academic excellence. He is a member of the Agricultural Business Association and the Young Republicans. He is also a member of the LSU Mixon-Lyceum Speech & Debate Team. He plays intermural softball for KA.

He is an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoys snow skiing.

His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole and Polka.

Catherine Pate McCalip, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conn Kenneth McCalip, the sister of Meagan Elizabeth McCalip and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Rushing of Meadville and Gwen S. McCalip of Natchez and the late Kenneth McCalip.

Miss McCalip currently attends Cathedral Elementary School in kindergarten.

She is a student of Middleton School of Dance.

Her hobbies and interests include collecting dolls, enjoying coloring, fishing, reading and traveling with her Gi-Gi.

Her previous Pageant participation was Little Maypole.

Bethany Toy Ogden, the daughter of Beverly Toy Ogden and Alton J. Ogden Jr. and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Weathersby of Houston, Texas, Mr. and Mrs. Alton J. Ogden Sr. of Natchez and Margie W. Ogden of Natchez.

Miss Ogden currently is in the first grade at Trinity. She attends First Baptist Church, is a member of the Children of the American Revolution, and served as page to John Bergeron, king of Mardi Gras 2000.

She loves to go to Ole Miss football games and play in the Grove, enjoys riding her Jet Ski and swims and plays with her yellow lab, Rebel.

Her previous Pageant participation was Little Maypole.

James Tyler Bowling is the son of James D. Bowling and Angela M. Bowling and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry B. Moore and Mr. John Swain of Clinton, and the late Mrs. Gladys Swain.

Master Bowling is currently in kindergarten at ACCS and attended Jefferson Street Preschool.

He is a member of the Natchez Swim Association and the Music Prep Class.

His hobbies include baseball, soccer and swimming.

His previous Pageant participation include Little Maypole (two years) and Showboat (four years).

Peyton David Jenkins is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David R. Jenkins and the grandson of Mrs. R.B. Dossett, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Henry Louis Jenkins of Baton Rouge, La., and Mr. and Mrs. James T. Saunders of Vidalia.

Master Jenkins currently attends Cathedral. His activities include T-ball and soccer. His hobbies include swimming, riding bicycles and hunting with his dad.

His previous Pageant participation includes Little Maypole and Picnic.
