Webster defines elegance as a sense of propriety, grace, or beauty. What fitting words to describe 15 young ladies who have embarked on their initial steps toward the achievement of finer womanhood and are ready to make their debut into society. The Natchez Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will host their 15th annual Debutante Cotillion on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Natchez Convention Center. The theme is “Elegance in Bloom: Polished, Poised, and Prepared.” The public is invited to attend this grand occasion and admission is $5. Tickets may be purchased from any Delta of the Natchez Chapter or any cotillion participant.

These young ladies have participated in various activities throughout the year. They have visited local nursing homes, volunteered at the Natchez Stewpot, and participated in Delta’s “Read America” program by reading and distributing books to area youth at the Natchez Mall during the Christmas holidays. They have also been showcased in the Miss-Lou Christmas parade and the Black History parade. A bonding weekend was recently held at the Natchez Eola Hotel, which included various workshops and worship service at Christian Hope Baptist Church. The Natchez Eola Hotel will also be the host site of the chapter’s upcoming annual “Mother Daughter Tea.”

Each of these young ladies exhibits the essence of finer womanhood, academic excellence, strong morals and values and outstanding service to the community.

Debutante Chelsea Jasmine Bennett is the 16-year-old daughter of Henry and Larenza Jones. She is a Junior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Jonathan Anderson, the son of Cleveland and LaDonna Moore.

Debutante Cagney Samantha Brown is the 17-year-old daughter of Robert and Meg Brown. She is a Junior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Caleb Johnson III, the son of Caleb Johnson II and Jacqueline Johnson.

Debutante Jalisa Rae Brown is the 17-year-old daughter of Ray and Diane Brown. She is a Senior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Gervoni Ware, the son of Brad and Neka Ware.

Debutante Holli Byrd is the 17-year-old daughter of Aaron Bradley and Carlman and Dixie Lang. She is a Junior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Samuel Washington, the son of Samuel and Gladys Washington.

Debutante Casey Danielle Edwards is the 17-year-old daughter of Elaine Edwards. She is a Senior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Kevin Rawlings, the son of Pamela Rawlings.

Debutante Tamara Anniece Fakes is the 18-year-old daughter of Irma Fakes and Henry Robinson. She is a Senior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Xavier Davis, the son of Cynthia King and Joseph Davis Sr.

Debutante Shareka Jackeese Hargrave is the 17-year-old daughter of Paul and Jacqueline Hargrave. She is a Junior at Natchez High School and her escort will be Nicholas King, the son of Rachel Gibson.
