Few still without power
Published 12:00am Tuesday, September 9, 2008NATCHEZ — Some Adams County residents are still in the dark a week after Hurricane Gustav blew through the area.
According to the Mississippi Public Service Commission 720 meters were still without service in Mississippi. The outages are located in Adams and Wilkinson Counties and Claiborne County.
Entergy reported that all of its Adams County customers that are capable of receiving power have been returned to service.
Entergy’s Customer Service Manager Stephen Caruthers said that some Entergy customers remain without power because of damage to meters.
Entergy customers who are still without power but do not have meter damage should now call Entergy’s hotline at 1-800-9-OUTAGE.
Leonard Bentz, Southern District Public Service Commissioner, said that residents in affected areas should expect to receive power soon.
“Crews are diligently working to restore power to everyone that is able to receive power,” Bentz said in a release.
Bentz said that flooding will cause further delays for some residents in the Fort Adams and Lake Mary areas in Wilkinson County.
Approximately 450 meters are still without power in those areas.
Bentz said that residents should continue to use caution when dealing with downed power lines.
“I want to encourage all residents to continue to stay away from downed power lines because they still pose a definite danger,” Bentz said.
