Concordia machine pitch team wins state tourney opener

DERITTER, La. — The Concordia Americans 7-8-year-old machine pitch All-Star team won its opener in the Louisiana Dixie Youth State Tournament, but still has a long way to go to grab the championship.

The Americans defeated host team DeRitter 9-2 to move into the winner’s bracket of the tournament.

Cooper Roach and Caden Poole scored two runs each for Concordia, while Tanner Jenkins, Trey Poole, Jacob Beard and Nick Melton also scored runs in the winning effort.

The Americans continue the tournament today with three games.

They face the Vernon Americans at 9 a.m. before facing Shreveport at 3:15 p.m. and then Tioga at 5:45 p.m.
