ROXIE — A Franklin County man was killed early Monday morning on a trip to his mailbox.

Carl E. Jackson, 73, of 1887 Highway 33 South, Roxie, was on foot as he crossed the northbound lane of traffic on Mississippi 33 from his driveway to his mailbox at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Lindsey R. Bonnette, 17, 84 Birch Lane, Crosby, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus north when she collided with Jackson.

Bonnette, who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured.

Jackson was pronounced dead on the scene by Franklin County Coroner Percy Peeler.
