Rey and team have won the Eastern Division of the SWAC in both years of his coaching tenure, which had never been done by any previous ASU coach.

The Braves had four players who made the All-Tournament team: pitcher Steve Easter of Chicago, who won Game 1 and saved the championship game one; Eduardo Gonzalez of Lutz, Fla., who batted .625 in the four games along with eight RBIs; right fielder Kenny Rowan of Jackson, who batted .400, scored six times and drove in seven runs; and the tournament’s most valuable player, senior Kilby Perdomo of Santa Domingo.

Kilby batted .461, drove in 11 runs, scored nine times and also got hit three times in the batter’s box. He drew four walks as well.

Rey, the SWAC baseball coach of the year, will have to wait until next Monday to find out where the Braves will be sent in the NCAA Regionals. Most of the other conferences will be playing their tournaments this week, and a show will air next Monday showing the playing location of each team with an automatic bid and those that were selected.
