Natchez — Natchez City Planner Bob Nix reported to the Natchez Preservation Commission Wednesday that there could be changes to the design of the Roth Hill casino previously approved by the commission.

Nix said at the commission’s meeting Wednesday night he thinks Premier Gaming Group is trying to maintain the character of the approved building design within their budget.

Nix said he has talked to the casino’s architect and Nix believes the casino will be a metal building with cypress siding, and developers might eliminate the carriage porch on the front of the casino that is in the approved plan.

The developers may purchase the metal building without approval, but Nix said they would be doing that at their own risk.

Nix also said he was concerned that like a lot of developers the casino company will try to pick apart the approval process and negotiate with attorneys and city officials and not include city staff.

“I have tried to communicate that that will not happen on this project,” he said.

Nix said it is not unusual for developers to try to minimize liability and maximize profit.

“We are just doing what governments should normally do and making sure the public does not foot the bill,” he said.

Nix said Premier Gaming plans to submit a final design plan for the casino to the commission in December. He said after the meeting he thinks they have a good shot at getting approval.

“But we won’t know until we see it,” he said.
