County having employee health seminar

Published 12:08am Wednesday, April 25, 2012

We the Adams County Board of Supervisors have invited Blue Cross Blue Shield to put on a health seminar to educate county employees on their medical benefits.

We anticipate that this seminar will make county employees more informed regarding their insurance and services that Blue Cross Blue Shield provides.

BCBS will discuss with them the importance of a Healthy You!

Healthy You! is a wellness benefit that provides county employees and their covered dependents with an annual wellness visit with our network provider.

It will teach county employees how to manage their health, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and weight control, encourage having a yearly physical and promote a tobacco-free lifestyle.

Healthy You! will identify potential health issues before they become a serious health problem.

This seminar not only will help county employees, but it will also help the county’s future health care costs.

We the Adams County Board of Supervisors has made it mandatory that each employee attend one of the four seminars and encourage spouses of employees to attend.

The seminars will begin at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. today and Thursday.

Each seminar will be approximately 45 minutes long.

Angela Gibson Hutchins is the Adams County Board of Supervisor for District 3.

Angela, is BCBS simply the administrator of the county’s health care or insuror?  I thought the county was self insured based on previous comments.  I also remember some stop loss limit being mentioned, please explain.

This is a wast of time and money for the BOS should have put higher deductibles as that of $3000 to stop going to the the ER for sniffles or minor conditions!!! We (Taxpayers)  can’t afford this where the county employees should pay at least half of their insurance premiums for people in Adams county have to have this high deductible to have some kind of insurance!! I predict that they will have to pay it all in time as it is being done thru out the nation where taxpayers can’t pay and I feel the BOS better get girted up soon??!!!!
