Flyover traffic shifts to right lane today

Published 12:00am Thursday, May 24, 2012

NATCHEZ — Traffic in the northbound lanes of U.S. 61 at the flyover intersection is scheduled to be shifted into the right lane at 10 a.m. today.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation said the left lane would be closed to allow the eastbound traffic from the D’Evereux Drive/Lynda Lee Drive intersection to shift right under the new bridge and merge into the highway.

MDOT’s work to construct a flyover bridge at the intersection is ongoing.

The next stage of work — which will begin in a few weeks — will involve the closing of entrances to the frontage road in order to construct curbs and gutters. Access points to Walgreen’s and Ryan’s will be open.

Traffic delays in this area could occur, and alternate routes should be considered.

    Alternate route? Please elaborate.

I guess one could drive out pine ridge rd to steam plant left on foster mound then left on Morgantown to get to Natchez market from Popeyes. Or to get there from walmarks you could go out liberty to Palestine rd. Alternate routes? My achin ….

This Flyover is a bunch of bull if you ask me. This is another case of spending where it was not really needed. Guess I’ll be taking the Trace home and to work from now till it is completed.

    Publish a diagram – PLEASE!

Alternate routes prove we need a grant for an alternate bridge over St. Catherine Creek for north areas?

    Walmarks?

    Laughable.

Just imagine, all this time I thought it was WALLMARK.

Also, YOUR alternate routes have my head spinning.
    Invest in a GPS, pronto!
And for all that is holy, PLEASE don’t take it upon yourself to direct traffic!

Swerve to the right – two lanes squeeze down to one – SHEESH!

It’s going to be sad when some big truck, driven by someone who has never been here before “flies over” that overpass only to find school buses stopped at the red light.
