FERRIDAY — Ferriday mayor-elect Gene Allen will submit his appointments for town offices and departments to the board of aldermen for approval on his first day in office.

Allen’s appointments include Herman Smith for fire chief, Richard Madison for police chief, Tamika Hines for town clerk, Myisha Davis for town attorney, Larry Gordon for streets and sanitation and William McKeel for contractor and wastewater treatment.

Madison served as Ferriday police chief during Allen’s last administration.

Smith also served as Ferriday fire chief during Allen’s last administration.

Allen said he spent a considerable amount of time speaking to board members and other officials regarding his appointments.

“All these jobs are a big commitment that I take seriously,” Allen said.

Allen also announced his inauguration as mayor to be scheduled at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Haney’s Big House Music Hall on First Street.

The board will have a special meeting Monday, July 2, to approve or deny the appointments.

Madison as chief again. Wasn’t worth a d@#$ the first time and I don’t expect any better this time. When Allen was the Mayor last time the Ferriday PD was the laughing stock of the Miss-Lou so here we go again. Watch out people, when you go through Ferriday you better be going slow. The speed traps are going to get worse. Wonder if Allen ever moved his family inside the Ferriday city limits or do they still live on the lake?

They probably still live on the lake, and for the life of me, I can not figure out how people who don’t even live in ferriday town limits can keep getting the mayor position. We need someone from here that cares about the people and not just themselves. Also i find it funny that he wants to appoint a new fire chief when I think my sontoyo is doing an excellent job and tries to help you out when you call him with a problem. I am not saying mr smith is a bad person but hes not real helpful when you call unless he knows you and still gene wants to put all his friends back into their former positions. If it didnt work the first time, it wont work now.I was hoping against hope that gene allen wouldn’t get the mayor position because now we have to worry about if we will have water to flush our toilets with….I just wish he would leave the third party in the plant for the next 3 years, because then the citizens of ferriday might could worry less about the water because they seem to be doing a great job, and the water has been on for a long time.

So…if you run against the mayor he’s going to take your job away from you despite you doing an excellent job. Nothing against Smith either, he’s a good guy from what I know and all…it’s just more corruption from the Mayor-Elect. I’ll definitely be wary of the speed traps in Ferriday and Lord help any policeman stops the Mayors wife and gives her a ticket – he’ll find himself out of a job with a quickness!
