City auditor reports trouble getting information from clerk’s office

Published 5:19pm Thursday, June 28, 2012

NATCHEZ — The city’s auditor reported a clean audit to the Natchez Board of Aldermen this afternoon, but that news was overshadowed by the “material weakness” the auditor found in the audit.

Deanne Tanksley with the Gillon Group said she encountered significant obstacles in getting financial information from the city clerk’s office to conduct the audit for the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

“We are repeating the finding for internal controls over financial reporting as far as trying to pull the information (for the audit),” Tanksley said.

Tanksley advised the board that the city needs to find a strong accountant in the city clerk’s office who will be hands-on with operations.

    Who is the City Clerk?

the City Clerk is Mr. Donnie Holloway, who does a very poor job.  But Eloren9922, you should also know that the editorial board of the Natchez Democrat endorsed Mr. Holloway in the last election, saying that they thought he had fixed existing problems in his office.  Yet here he is, again, for the umpteenth time, cited as a “finding” in the auditor’s report.  A finding is a big fat blot on the city’s audit record.  Nice going editorial board–I hope you realize that the “findings” of next year’s audit are going to rest, to a large degree, squarely on your pointy shoulders

Failure to timely provide documents in an audit usually means there’s more going on than just a slow response.

Kinda like that lady that gave away $15,000 or so in tags years ago.,,they had trouble pulling up her info, still didn,t do anything to her or at least nothing was releaed, typical for Natchez politics, they are all getting their pieces of the pie.
