Vidalia to lengthen boat ramp while able

Published 12:04am Saturday, June 30, 2012

VIDALIA— The Vidalia landing boat ramp located on the riverfront will be closed for two weeks for construction.

Vidalia Street Department Director Lee Staggs said the city is taking advantage of the low levels on the Mississippi River to lengthen the ramp.

“When we built the ramp, we could only make it so long because the river was so high,” Staggs said. “The river has gotten so low, that now we can go back and extend it.”

Staggs said the construction work shouldn’t take more than two weeks.

As of Friday, the river level at Natchez was 13.9 feet.

Not being conversant with boat ramps, I want to ask a question. If the boat ramp is longer, and the water rises, doesn’t it present a danger to boats pulling in that don’t know how far out it extends? And run over it, damaging their motors?

You are incredibly rude. Please read my question again. I asked “if you don’t know the ramp is there” which would mean you don’t know to lift your motor. Now, who is the retard?

It does not matter, it’s never a
Good Idea to launch your boat with the motor down.
