Reality television looking for long lost rednecks

Published 12:04am Monday, July 2, 2012

NATCHEZ — If you have a family member who has lost their redneck way and traded in their backwoods charm for the big city, CMT wants to help.

The country music network is casting in Mississippi for its new show “Redneck Intervention.”

But the name of the show may be misleading, casting producer Benjamin McCormick of The Casting Firm said.

“The name makes it sound like we are staging an intervention for ‘rednecks,’ but in fact, it’s just the opposite,” McCormick said.

The show will reunite families with “city slicker runaways,” McCormick said. Producers are looking for “outgoing, proud, all-American redneck” families to reconnect with their distant family member for a surprise “redneck family reunion.”

The show comes from the producers of “My Big Redneck Wedding” and “My Big Redneck Vacation” and will be hosted by Tom Arnold.

Interested families can apply online at thecastingfirm.com/redneck-intervention or e-mail cast-ings@thecastingfirm.com.

Applicants are asked to write “redneck” in the subject line of the e-mail and include a name, phone number, family photos and why they think would be good for the show.

McCormick said the show is not currently in Mississippi casting, but interviews are be conducted via Skype video calls.

Here is a thought… why don’t the writers in Hollywood actually WRITE scripts and put something worth watching on TV? It seems any time they want to put the south on TV it is never in a positive light it is always some idiot that acts like they have hay for brains and makes the whole South look uneducated, senseless, and inbred. I am sick to death of reality TV it was rather nice when they brought Dallas back because for once it was not reality TV but rather scripted and something people could relate to. There are others but not many most everything on TV now is nothing but reality shows and frankly they are ignorant and people are just tired of them. I would rather read a book than watch TV including the news. Even that has become reruns they just seem to recap everything from Friday – Sunday. I thought retro TV would bring back some shows of the past but it is more recent shows or stuff no one is interested in…I suppose they do not understand what retro means? seems more logical to read than watch TV  can get rid of that mess and ditch the bill and be better off because there is nothing on worth watching.

Here is an idea for a reality show: gather all the people who come up with these reality shows and then, “CHOOT ‘EM!!!”

These shows are just so the rest of the country can be entertained by stupid red necks. They already think that everyone who lives in the south is stupid and ignorant so they seek out the best example they can find and put them on T.V. If you are an intelligent and classy southerner they do not want you. Be smart and don’t even respond to these producers.Show them that we are better than that.

“Please, come join us in perpetuating negative stereotypes!’

Unfortunately, there are people out there who don’t care how it makes them look as long as they get the money for it.

I really hope and pray NOONE from our area is pitiful enough to do this. Damn, I guess Hollywood thinks everyone in Mississippi is a redneck. And TOM ARNOLD???? Who gives a crap about that loser? We get enough negative publicity as it is; I don’t think we need to help them.

This show is no different then any of the Real Housewives, Jersey shore, Jerseylicious or Big Rich Texas.  They all perpetuate a certain stereotype, however if they didn’t make money for the television companies or producers then they wouldn’t be made in the first place.  The fact is Americans want to watch these kinds of shows.

Jeez.  Rather than proving their point, could you proof your post and use some punctuation?

DOUBLE AMEN to all above! I am so sick of Reality TV. It’s stupid, boring and not worth watching. I do not give it the time of day or night. I don’t like it when people put down the state of Mississippi or any other southern state.

THIS ARTICLE UPSET MANY OF THE “SO CALL BETTER THAN A REDNECKS”. THEY CAN FIND THE BEST REDNESKS IN FRANKLYN COUNTY AND WORK THERE WAY TO ADAMS. WE HAVE TO REALIZE THAT REDNECKS ARE PEOPLES. REDNECKS ARE INTELLIGENT AND CLASSY. THEY JUST HANDLE THERE BUSINESS DIFFERENT. FOR THOSE WHO ‘S HAVING A PROBLEM WONDERING WHY THE SOUTH IS LOOK AT IN A NEGATIVE WAY, ALL “YOU” HAVE TO DO IS TURN AROUND AND FACE THE MIRROR. I SAY TO THE REDNECKS > MAKE-THAT-MONEY KISS-WHERE-THE-SUN-DON’T-SHINE<. FOR THEY'RE THE STUPID ONES.

And you can just not read the post if you don’t like them too….. this is not a term paper but a blog if ya don’t like what I post then don’t read it…

I don’t like or dislike your post.  Writing a post to complain that Hollywood tries to make Southerners look uneducated or senseless, and then proceeding to prove their point is funny and seems rather self defeating.

  • Anonymous

Face it–for over two centuries Southerners have displayed a positive genius for playing down to the lowest expectations of their critics. There are advantages to being underestimated, however.

I think you’ve come up with a new show, “Rednesks of Franklyn County”.  You should e-mail this response to the producers.  You would win hands down.

Reality shows are the main reason I don’t watch that much television anymore. It’s all you see when you’re flipping thru the channels, a bunch of idiots making fools of themselves just to make some money and get ‘famous’.
