NPD searches for truck missing from car lot

Published 12:05am Friday, July 27, 2012

NATCHEZ — Natchez police are searching for a second truck that seems to have disappeared from Trace City Toyota.

Lt. Craig Godbold said the 2012 white Toyota Tundra was noticed missing during a recent vehicle inventory.

According to the police report, the dealership’s manager reported that an employee had checked out a key for the truck, which the manager said had not been returned.

The manager also reported there is no surveillance video that shows the truck leaving the dealership’s parking lot.

Godbold said he is unsure if the missing truck is related to the recent theft of a red 2012 Toyota Tacoma.

Anyone with information about the truck should call Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000 or NPD at 601-445-5565.

They must have been stolen around July 4, the first one was red, this one was white, the next one will be blue?

You would think Danny Hammett would put DVR video surveillance on a inventory that is worth that much……..

Sounds like they need to start looking at employees.

Seems like it could be an inside job

You would think that they would. Guess he’s just being cheap but will cost him more in the long run. That dealership isn’t that big! Not sure how the vehicle can go for weeks without noticing it was gone. Someone is slacking. On a side note, The sales floor/lobby needs to be renovated at the dealership. I took my Lexus by there to get a part that came in and was shocked at how the lobby looked and how unclean it was. Looked like they were only there temporarily

When I take the Tundra in for service, I notice that.

I’ll say this again.  It is highly unlikely that either of these trucks will ever be found.  The fact that they’d come back for seconds means they’ve already taken care of the first.

What needs to happen is NPD/ACSO/MHP need to start stopping these rides with no tag…even the ones with temp tags (paper).  Hell, I can make one of those with a $10 inkjet printer.

I can’t count the amount of times I have seen a cop pass up these people and never give them a second look.  It’s a virtual slap in the face of every taxpayer!!!

Be willing to bet it wasn’t stolen.

I guess it depends on the cop and who you are. A few years ago, I left the Mazda dealership and went around the bypass toward Natchez Regional. When I left the Dealer I noticed that there was a cop about a block and a half behind me when I entered the road. I went on around and just where Wal-Mart is he stopped me. He said he noticed I didn’t have a tag and wanted to see the registration. I showed him all the papers and also said that I he had been paying attention he would have seen me leave the dealership. While he was talking to me I saw three old piece of junk cars in a row pass us with no plate. I pointed those out and he asked if I was trying to cause trouble. I didn’t get a ticket but I had a real case of the Red *** about the whole thing.
