NATCHEZ — Police charged a 20-year-old Natchez man Tuesday after the man reportedly shot at his teenage cousin when a fight between the cousins escalated from joking to gunfire.

Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said Darren K. Farrell of 4 Brookview Lane was charged with aggravated assault after he shot at his cousin at a Maple Street residence Tuesday evening.

Ford said the fight between the two cousins started out as joking then Farrell became angry by some of things his cousin said during the argument. Farrell reportedly hit the teenager, and another cousin separated the two.

Farrell then reportedly pulled a gun out and fired at the teenager, who was grazed in the arm by a bullet. Ford said Farrell reported that he shot at his cousin because the cousin also pulled a gun out. Ford said the case’s detective could not confirm that detail.

The teenager was treated at the scene by paramedics and was not taken to the hospital.

Farrell is being held without bond.
