Southwest Distributors building new facility

NATCHEZ — A familiar business face in downtown Natchez will soon begin construction to move out of downtown and into a new facility.

Southwest Distributors, an Anheuser-Busch wholesaler based in Summit and Natchez, will be moving from its current location on High Street to U.S. 84 near McNeil Road.

“We’ve outgrown our little corner in historic downtown Natchez,” said Stephanie Hutchins, vice president of public affairs.

The company will kick off construction of a new facility with a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday. The new facility is scheduled to be complete in December 2013.

Hutchins said the company chose to relocate because its current location makes it difficult to maneuver delivery trucks.

“We’re very excited to move out there,” she said. “And I’m sure some of our neighbors will be excited since there have been some accidents with delivery trucks.”

The company was assisted by Natchez Inc. in choosing a new location.

“This spot was chosen specifically because it will give much easier access for large delivery trucks,” Natchez Inc. Project Manager Chris Hinton said.

Southwest Distributors has 19 employees and has been at its current location for approximately 50-60 years, Hutchins said.

“Right now I don’t have any plans for our current location,” Hutchins said. “It’s a little early, so we’ll wait and see.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the new location.

Welcome to Washington.  You will make an excellent addition to the Beach Industrial Park and join our new industry of Tractor Supply, Natchez Butane, and Atmos Energy, along with the recent new store of Dollar General, and of course the new Adams County Water building and Pepsi Cola.  Washington – an unincorporated burg on the grow, even without the elected leadership to court new enterprise.  I propose locating a new manned fire department in your vicinity to keep your insurance rates low and to lower response time to all these new businesses and to all points out to the county lines.

Don’t grow too fast or Natchez will seek to annex you . But seriously , Washington is a neat community !

Years ago my granddaddy said that Washington needed to incorporate in order to prevent being gobbled up by Natchez. :)

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they don’t try.  The sharks will be circling. If they succeed, they’ll ruin it also.

At least we wouldn’t have the preservation rules to contend with and could paint our buildings any color we like………..
