Centreville sets tone early versus WCCA

Published 12:50am Saturday, September 8, 2012

WOODVILLE — Casey Haygood’s 53-yard touchdown pass to Colby Shaw just 21 seconds into the game set the tone for Friday night’s showdown between Centreville Academy and Wilkinson County Christian Academy.

That gave Centreville a quick 7-0 lead, and the Tigers pretty much had their way with the Rams from that point on as they went on take a 27-7 victory and improve to 4-0 on the season while handing WCCA its first loss.

Haygood ended up completing five of 11 passes for 115 yards with the touchdown and one interception. Colton Terrell had 17 carries for 136 yards and one touchdown. His rushing yards were more than the total yards the Rams ended up with — 131.

Taylor Prevost threw the ball well against Centreville’s defense as he completed 12 of 20 passes for 131 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown pass to Dra Tolliver with 9:44 to go that ended the Tigers’ shutout bid. He also threw one interception.

WCCA’s defense forced three Centreville turnovers. The problem was the Rams couldn’t run the ball, as they finished with zero total yards on the ground, and they could not stop the Tigers’ ground game, which amassed 267 yards.

Centreville opens up MAIS District 6-AA play next Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Oak Forest Academy. WCCA (2-1) returns to District 6-A action next Friday when it hosts Riverfield Academy at 7 p.m.
