Cool temps not the only good news

Wonderful temperatures and beautiful days found their way to the Miss-Lou this weekend, sending many residents outdoors to enjoy our community at its finest.

Though it’s likely to warm up, we all know fall is on the way, and this area shines when the temperatures dip just a tad.

But last week brought more than nice temperatures so let’s review a few of the high points.

– A closer look at the Natchez-Adams School District’s performance on state tests shows great promise at almost every level. We are proud of McLaurin Elementary (a school with which this newspaper happens to be a Partner in Education), for continued success and growth and an instance that there’s still more work to do. Congratulations to the teachers and administrators who have worked so hard to see improvement in our students.

– The Natchez Trace Kiwanis Club packed the bowling alley Thursday night for a fundraiser that will benefit a number of area programs focused on children. We hope the group had fun with their purpose.

– Caitlin Ballard, an eighth-grade student at Vidalia Junior High School, has already spent the prize money she received for her high performance on Louisiana’s state tests last spring. Of course, after she bought herself something special, she proceeded to give it away as a present. The talented teen loves history but does well in all her classes and certainly has a bright future ahead.

As we crawl deeper into September, and hopefully fall, remember to enjoy the blessings around you.
