Have you ever wished that you could support tourism and have fun at the same time?

On Thursday you can accomplish that goal by attending the Natchez Garden Club’s annual Fall Bash.

As you head home from work Thursday, stop by the Barrel Room at Bowie’s Tavern between 6 and 8 p.m. and enjoy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, live music and good company.

You can even shop while you mingle because there will be a silent auction.

The silent auction packages have something for everyone. For the traveler, a five-night getaway in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico will be awfully tempting. Love to travel but not quite so far? A four-night retreat to Gatlinburg, Tenn., might be the perfect solution. The leisure-minded can bid on a Lake St. John weekend at the Callon Cottage that includes Vera Bradley flip-flops and beach towel.

Sports fanatics will be excited to bid on a football signed by Brett Favre, and outdoors enthusiasts will jump at the opportunity for a weekend hunting package at Retirement Plantation.

How does all of this support tourism in Natchez?

The proceeds from this event will go to benefit the restoration of Magnolia Hall. Built in 1858 by Thomas Henderson, this Greek Revival mansion is a popular tourist attraction.

Many tourists have enjoyed Magnolia Hall’s candlelight dinners, the costume museum and its unique magnolia-and-leaf ceiling medallions.

Preserving our local treasures like Magnolia Hall supports tourism in Natchez which is, of course, a financial benefit to the entire city.

So, come, eat, drink, shop, and support your local tourist attraction.

It promises to be a great night.

Tickets for the Fall Bash can be purchased in advance from the Natchez Garden Club office by calling 601-443-9065. Tickets are $12 in advance or at the door for $15.

Bidding for the silent auction begins at 6, and winners will be announced at 8.
