NATCHEZ — An 80-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle as she attempted to cross the street Monday.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said the pedestrian, Mary Eidt, was struck by a Toyota Camry on Washington Street at its intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Street at 3:08 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Angela Hall, 35, was northbound on Martin Luther King Jr. Street and making a turn onto Washington Street at the time of the accident.

“(The victim) was struck in the lower part of her body, and she basically rolled over the hood,” Ford said.

Eidt was transported to a local hospital with complaints that her left arm was hurt, Ford said.

The detective said the incident was being considered an accident, and no citations were issued.

Uh, you don’t think the driver was going too fast??

Last I heard, the pedestrian has the right of way. It seems obvious that this occurred at the corner so if the pedestrian was crossing at the corner, she had the right of way.

Maybe NPD should follow the lead of the VPD in following up on this investigation. Were drug/alcohol tests administered, etc.?

I can assure you that drugs and alcohol weren’t an issue. Calm down Natchez..tragic as it may be, it was an accident, plain and simple.
Prayers to the victim and driver involved; God bless you both.

No, a pedestrian DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO STEP IN FRONT OF A VEHICLE! Remember what parents at one time taught…stop. look, listen. Common sense should prevail. Look at all the people that would rather walk in the road than on the side of the road….they are just asking for it. And you want to blame the driver? Get real! That being said, I am not blaming the pedistrian, nor the driver…I was not there…I don’t know what happened.

There’s no crosswalk there. I guess you do it at your own risk.
