Block plummets right past LaSalle for 40-8 win

JONESVILLE — Block freshman running back Raymond Plummer ran through LaSalle’s defense to the tune of 178 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries as the Bears celebrated homecoming with a 40-8 win over the LaSalle Tigers in their LHSAA District 3-1A opener Friday night at HG Taliaferro Memorial Stadium.

Plummer had touchdown runs of 26 and 12 yards in the first quarter and 79 yards early in the third quarter to lead Block’s running game, which amassed 342 yards on the night. William Cummings had six rushes for 64 yards with one touchdown and two 2-point conversion runs.

Mario Bowman added 45 yards on nine carries and converted two 2-point conversion runs of his own. Trevor Vault bounced back from a rough game against Bossier by completing 5 of 8 passes for 134 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown pass to Dorian Bowman with less than a minute to go before halftime.

Block finished with 476 yards of total offense and did not commit a turnover. The Bears’ opportunity at a shutout ended when Cole Hendrix threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Morgan Barbo with 7:15 remaining in the ball game.

Block (5-2, 1-0) hosts Montgomery at 7 p.m. next Friday.
