Underclassmen steal senior night for Centreville

CENTREVILLE — On senior night at Centreville Academy, it was a sophomore quarterback and a junior tight end who led the Tigers’ aerial assault against an overmatched Bowling Green School.

Casey Haygood threw two touchdown passes to Randy Bell during a 23-point second quarter that turned a close game for one quarter into a rout, as the No. 1 team in Class AA rolled to a 43-8 over the Buccaneers in MAIS District 6-AA to remain undefeated.

Despite throwing two interceptions, Haygood completed 8 of 12 passes for 158 yards. He threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Shaw with 8:11 left in the second quarter that made it 14-0, and a 33-yard touchdown pass from Haygood to Shaw with just eight seconds to go until halftime made it 30-0 Tigers. Shaw finished with 100 yards receiving on just three catches.

The defense got in on the scoring frenzy with a safety late in the second quarter, and Scott McKlemurry’s 25-yard interception return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter.

A pair of seniors led Centreville’s running game. Randy Bell had nine carries for 139 yards and a touchdown, and Colton Terrell had 11 rushes for 56 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Tyler Caston had a 49-yard touchdown with 2:20 to go in the game.

Bowling Green (4-4, 1-2) ended Centreville’s shutout bid when Drew Breland scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and added a 2-point conversion run with 7:43 remaining in the fourth quarter.
