NATCHEZ — A man was airlifted to Jackson from Natchez after being stabbed multiple times Saturday night.

Natchez Police Lt. Justin Jones said the victim, Daryl Hite, was stabbed six times in the chest and once in the arm at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the Under-the-Hill Saloon.

The suspect in the stabbing, William Atkins Jr., 42, 136 Lee Ave., Vidalia, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Saturday night.

“From what we can gather, the two (men) have a longstanding feud, and Mr. Atkins arrived at the bar with the intentions of hurting the victim, Mr. Hite,” Jones said.

Hite was stabbed with a medium-sized blade, Jones said.

The victim was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center before being transported by air to a Jackson-area hospital, Jones said.

The matter is still under investigation.

From what I just read, it sure sounds like it was premeditated. So 6 stab wounds to the chest sounds like attempted murder to me.

I think aggravated assault amounts to the same thing in MS. I could be wrong. “Attempted murder” just fits better, in my opinion.
