HOUSTON, Texas — Services for John Philip Schlimper, 74, of Houston, Texas, who was received by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Second Baptist Church in the Hankamer Chapel in Houston.

Burial will be Saturday in San Augustine, Texas, under the direction of Scott Funeral Home in Alvin, Texas.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Schlimper was born April 3, 1938, in Port Arthur, Texas and raised his family in Houston. He later retired in San Augustine.

John loved and was loved and his powerful presence will be forever missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy Schlimper; his stepmother, Addie Lee Schlimper; one brother, Paul Schlimper; father-in-law, Sam Choate; mother-in-law, Merle Choate; one brother-in-law, Sam Winston Choate; and stepfather, Jewel Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Schlimper; two sons, Philip Schlimper and his wife, Glenda, of Katy, Texas and Keith Schlimper and his wife, Paula, and their daughters, Heather and Christina of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Stephanie Loveless and her husband, Gary, and their children, McKenzie, Ava Grace and Hunter of Houston; his mother, Phyllis Thomas of Natchez; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Schlimper of Elgin, Texas and Ava Beall and husband, Frank, of Sulphur, La.; one stepbrother, Bill Ransom and wife, Helen, of Austin, Texas; his adopted family, Ryan, Yolanda, Hannah and Zack of San Augustine; extended family, Silvia Gonzalez of Houston; as well as a number of beloved nieces, nephews and countless treasured friends.
