Hotel armed robbers take thousands of dollars

NATCHEZ — Natchez Police are investigating an armed robbery that resulted in the loss of thousands of dollars for three men.

The police responded to the Hampton Inn, 627 S. Canal St., Sunday evening after three victims reported that two men with guns and bandannas covering their faces had robbed them.

According to a report filed at the Natchez Police Department, the two robbers told the three victims to get on the floor of the hotel meeting room and empty their pockets.

From one of the victims, they reportedly took a bag of coins and jewelry, a 9mm gun, an iPhone 4S and “thousands of dollars in cash.”

From the second victim, the robbers took $500 and an iPhone 5.

From the third victim, the masked gunmen stole $6,000 and an iPhone 4S. The robbers also reportedly took the victims’ keys before fleeing the room and leaving the building through a maintenance room door.

A jewelry and coin buyer’s road show was set up at the Hampton Inn Saturday and Sunday.

According to the report, the suspects left the scene in a gray Jeep Cherokee with an East Automotive dealership tag.

Natchez Police Chief Danny White and other police department spokesmen could not be reached for comment Monday.

The story has some holes in it.

A jewelry and coin road show? Isn’t baiting the field illegal?

Totally agree. From the thieves who got in and then out so quickly, virtually undetected through the maintenance area to those who just happened to be robbed with that much cash on them and it not secured, dealer or not, is very suspicious. If you’re going to “do business,” your money isn’t more secured than that?

Let us all thank our lucky stars you are not in law enforcement. My guess is the armed robbers either work there or were assisted by someone who does. They knew exactly where they were going and exactly what they were looking for. I also suspect they will not be free men for very long.

I wonder if sales weren’t as high as they expected?

Who in the @#^! carries that much cash around on them? You need to be robbed. The whole thing sounds like some sort of deal gone bad. Notice the victims carrying the guns. Also, the goons knew exactly who to pinpoint.

I’m sure that East Automotive hasn’t sold many vehicles of this description in the recent past, the driver ought to be in jail by now. In defense of the exhibitors, I sold some stuff there a while back and they were reputable businessmen who, by nature, are required to deal with large amounts of cash in every venue, thus honest.

Is it me–or does it seem that since Chief Danny took office?–Crimes like this starting to multiply…LIke “Hey man, do you really think we should rob that bank?” — or something like this…
Natchez going down fast unless a tough as nails– Law & Order guy–takes over the Police Dept.

Well, people who buy coins and jewelry, for starters. Its pretty sad when people wish armed robbery on people simply because their business is a cash one. I suppose you think women who wear short skirts deserve rape as well.

    Well said Crak.

Wow!!!! I used to work there and yes it does seem a little odd that they would be able to enter from the maintenance door, when it is locked on Saturday and Sunday, because they do not have a maintenance person. Especially, around five in the afternoon, that is what time they leave anyway. I would hope that none of the employees would stoop to this level. This seems a little funny to me that they could get in and out so quickly without anyone seeing them. The Hampton has cameras all over the building that are very visible. This seems to me to be an inside job, that is sad.

IT’S JUST YOU BECAUSE CRIME BEEN ON
    THE RISE.

Thank you. You’ve just about stating what my point was, but there are so many licensed CSIs, on these comments until someone giving THEIR view is lost. My point made about the maintenance door was because it DID ALSO seem like an inside job to me. No one is applauding the robbers nor do I endorse the thought that just because someone is carrying around cash, they deserved to be robbed. If I have that much cash on me it would be secured and NOT on my person, whether I am presently conducting business or not. Keep only enough for making change.

This plays in nicely with the op-ed about “teen” crime. Notice how easily some people justify crime. They had cash so they deserved it. Is that what this person will teach her children? People with cash deserved to be robbed? What an utterly broken and valueless culture.
