BUDE — One man is dead and another in custody after a Friday evening shooting in Bude.

Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said the FCSO responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of D Street and Gerard Street at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The result of an apparent argument in the street that escalated into gunfire, the shooting resulted in the death of Juan Middleton, 40, who died as result of having been shot multiple times, Newman said.

The sheriff said the weapon used was a handgun.

The alleged shooter, Brian Middleton, 26, was taken into custody.

Newman said that though the two men have the same last name, at this time it is unclear if they were related.

The matter remains under investigation.
