JONESVILLE — A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Basil Guice Trunzler IV, M.D., who died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, in Alexandria, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Christudas Nayak and the Rev. Louis Sklar officiating.

A private burial will follow at Harrisonburg Cemetery under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Dr. Trunzler was born March 12, 1936, in Harrisonburg, the son of Basil Guice Trunzler III and Mary Etta Bethard Trunzler.

Dr. Trunzler graduated from Harrisonburg High School. He received a bachelor of science decree from Louisiana State University and from there Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency in urology at Confederate Memorial and then became a board certified urologist. He then went on to fulfill his military duty with the U.S. Navy on the Valley Forge and served in the Vietnam War. He then began his career of 52 years as a physician. He has been past chief of staff at Natchez Regional Medical Center and medical director of Sicily Island Medical Center.

Dr. Trunzler was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Owens Trunzler; four children, Laura Trunzler Batson and husband, John Andrew Batson, Basil Guice Trunzler V, Paul Arenz Lemke III and Anne Lemke Diamond; four grandchildren, John Andrew Batson Jr., Evan Alexander Batson, Weston Paul Diamond and Ava Elizabeth Diamond; one sister, Ann Coker; and two brothers, Joe Tom Trunzler and wife, Mary Gene, and Martin Trunzler.

The family wishes to thank those who assisted in caring for Dr. Trunzler in his illness: Dr. Liu, Dr. Shaw, Dr. Smith, Dr. Knapp, Dr. Ule, Dr. McGinity, the ICU staff and Grace Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Oliphant, Berchman Trichel, Jackie Owens, Daryl Floyd and Zachary Owens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Plaza, Memphis, TN 38105.
