MERIDIAN — Services for Sarah Marcelle Chrestman Porter, 85, who died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, Bedford Care Center in Marion, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Robert Barham Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Raymon Leake officiating.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until service time at the funeral home.

The Porters lived in Union City, Tenn., and Natchez before moving to Meridian in 1995. Mrs. Porter was recognized with a medal by the Joslin Diabetic Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, for living successfully with Type 1 diabetes for 66 years. She was an avid genealogical researcher for more than 40 years, and she also enjoyed taking classes at the Meridian Activity Center.

Mrs. Porter was was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William F. “Bill” Porter.

Survivors include her son Fred J. Porter and his wife, Debra Harbour Porter, of Meridian; two grandsons, William N. Porter and his wife, Kimberly, of Budapest, Hungary, and Samuel J. Porter and his wife, Holly, of Vicksburg; two beloved great-grandchildren, Jacob and Carson Porter of Vicksburg. Her extended family includes her brother James H. Chrestman of Tupelo and Bernice Turner of Starkville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
