NATCHEZ — Services for Jason Lavon Phipps, 38, of San Antonio, Texas, who died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at North Central Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Sibley with the Rev. Edward Brown officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Phipps was born Feb. 26, 1974, in Natchez, the son of Kenneth and Carrie Phipps. He was a graduate of Crossland High School in Temple Hills, Md., and attended Prince George’s County Community College.

Mr. Phipps was a quarter master in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed music, poetry and writing. He was Baptist.

Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, David Moore and Virginia Haywood and paternal grandfather, George Phipps.

Survivors include his parents; two children, Desteni Shafer and Jayden Phipps; one sister, Kendra Emamali and husband, Gerald II; paternal grandmother, Edna M. Phipps; one nephew, Gavin Emamali; aunts and uncles, Marie Young and husband, Clem, Johnny Haywood, James Haywood, David Haywood and wife, Rosie Lee, Robert Lee Donalds and wife, Brenda, Maggie Curtis, Alvin Curtis and wife, Vanessa, Ronnie Curtis and wife, Lucy, and Michael Phipps and wife, Roberta; and a number of cousins and special friends.
