NATCHEZ — Kyle Bradley scored all three goals for Cathedral in regulation and Daniel Garrity made some key saves for the Green Wave, one of which ended the game as they defeated the Loyd Star Hornets 4-3 Friday night at D’Evereux Stadium.

Thomas Garrity had an assist on Bradley’s first goal from the right wing in which he passed the ball past a defender and right to Bradley, whose shot went past the goalkeeper and into the net.

Plantini Doan had an amazing assist on Bradley’s second goal from the left wing.

“The defender was coming at him (Doan) and he made a little juke and commanded the attention of two defenders,” Green Wave head coach Dennis Hogue said. “He passed it to Bradley, who blasted it past the goalkeeper.”

Bradley got the hat trick when Thomas Garrity blasted a shot that somehow was saved by Loyd Star’s starting goalkeeper, but he couldn’t maintain control of the ball and Bradley scored and the game was tied at 3-3 at the end of regulation.

Cathedral held a 3-2 lead on penalty kicks when Daniel Garrity made a save on what turned out to be Loyd Star’s last opportunity to keep the game going.

“He’s small, but he played out of his mind tonight,” Hogue said about Daniel Garrity. “He made some great saves — just really smart on the ball. We had some goalkeeping issues earlier in the season, so we put Daniel in there. He can’t be more than four feet tall. He won the game for us.”

Cathedral not only won its first Division 7-1A/2A/3A game of the season to go to 7-3 overall and 1-3 in its division, but the Green Wave also avenged a 5-0 loss at Loyd Star nearly a month ago.

“For us to step up and beat them is huge. Not a bad Christmas present for their coach, either,” Hogue said.

In the varsity girls game, Maddy Christian scored both goals for Cathedral as the Lady Green Wave defeated the Loyd Star Lady Hornets Friday night 2-0 to improve to 3-1 in division play.

Cathedral was scheduled to host Natchez High next Friday night, but those games have been canceled. Cathedral doesn’t play again until Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, when it hosts St. Aloysius. The junior varsity girls game gets under way at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and capped off by the varsity boys’ game at 7 p.m.
