Man cleans up, takes laundry’s cash register

Published 12:04am Tuesday, January 1, 2013

NATCHEZ — A thief took a local laundry service to the cleaners Monday afternoon when he reportedly stole a cash register from the business.

Natchez Detective Jerry Ford said a man reportedly walked into Simmons Steam Cleaners & Laundry on St. Catherine Street at approximately 2:05 p.m., took the cash register and walked out.

The laundry’s manager, Ford said, was upstairs during the theft and saw the thief on a security camera.

Ford said he believes the thief had a driver waiting outside and was able to flee quickly with the register. The amount of cash in the register has not yet been determined, Ford said.

Anyone with any information about the theft should contact NPD at 601-445-5565 or Crime Stoppers at 601-442-5000.

Crime Stoppers offers a reward up to $1,000 for a tip leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.

I guess stealing the register was on his laundry list of things to do for the day.

I hate a thief. Thieves and thugs are having the run of Natchez. Let’s elect judges and prosecuters who will put these leeches of society away.

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

Owners of business should bust a cap or two on folks like this that will end this in the Natchez area as well as else where then call the law it just that simple huh”??!! That way you don’t have think about judges and the expense to the county!!

THE MAIN THING IS NO ONE GOT HURT OR KILLED. NO MATTER WHAT JUDGES OR PROSECUTERS IS BEHIND THE WHEEL, THEY WANT STOP THIEVES. THIEVES ARE PART OF OUR SOCIETY. THEY WERE HERE WHEN YOU WERE BORN, AND THE WILL BE HERE WHEN YOU CHECK OUT. DO ANYONE KNOW ANY PLACE ON EARTH THAT’S THIEF-FREE ? THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH HATING A THIEF IF THAT’S YOUR WAY OF GETTING HIGH, BUT IT DON’T CHANGE NOT ONE THING. STOP PLAYING THE BLAME GAME AND TRY TO COME UP WITH SOME SOLUTIONS. WHEN YOU ALWAYS HEAR OF SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT BUSTING A CAP ON SOMEONE, YOU CAN BEST BELIEVE THAT PERSON DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO LOAD A GUN LESSON ON HOW TO SHOOT ONE. THAT’S A PERSON THAT’S AFRAID AND SPEAK ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD DO. WHEN SOMEONE GET READY TO BUST A CAP ON YOUR A**, THE ONLY TIME YOU WILL KNOW IT IS WHEN THEY BRING YOUR HAT TO THE HOSPITAL. YOU FEAR THE LITTLE CRIME THAT GOES ON IN THIS COMMUNITY IS BIG, WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS PACK-UP AND MOVE TO NEW ORLEANS FOR ABOUT SIX MONTH. IF YOU LAST A MONTH THERE, YOU WOULD REALLY KNOW HOW TO APPRECATE THIS COMMUNITY. JUST TRY, I KNOW IT WILL BE HARD, TO GROW UP IN 2013.

Come on Dave. Do you really think that we should all simply accept thieves as a necessary part of society? Get real man.

We have a District Attorney who can’t win a case, so he has to plea deal everything that comes across his desk. Once they are plea bargained, if they hit Lillie’s court, then they are turned back out the door with no punishment. Right back out on the street to do it again and again.

When the next election rolls around, will we replace them? Probably not, because too many people are willing to accept crime as part of a normal Natchez.

Crime is hurting our city. When is enough enough?

Dave727 – Only another thief would condone theft. Are you a thief Dave? Are you a criminal too? Does that make you thankful that criminals only get a slap on the hand here?

As a former resident of Natchez, I’m sad to say that the crime and punishment there is worse than where I now reside,Gulfport. I grew up in two of the toughest neighborhoods there(Lagrange and Broadmoore) yet I am and have always been a law abiding citizen. The lack of jobs is just an excuse for those who don’t want to hustle legally. Do as I did after the paper mill closed, relocate. Todays youth are just disrespectful and lazy. Some parents are the crutches for their children’s bad decisions. I wish only the best for those who chose to stay there, but smart money says that the younger generation needs to look to college or the military or both.

dave you must have a broke cap lock on your computer, seems like your screaming with all those CAPITAL LETTERS…

  • vilou09

To reiterate your first statement, YES, the main thing IS that no one got hurt or killed.
This may sound harsh, but maybe that’s what should have happened… to the perp.
It is just appalling to me that The owners (who apparently watched this crime go down via CCTV upstairs!!) didn’t unload some lead into their thieving butt! In this day, if you’re a small business owner in a small town, you should always be packing heat. Especially if your product/service may be likely to attract some unsavory clientele (i.e., a laundry house in the middle of a high crime area in natchez!).

Grow a brain. Get a gun. Then grow a pair and use it on the scum that’s trying to take food out of yours and your children’s mouths! COME ON!!

Dave, you is soo smart, I think I know what yo vision bees…… People gonna steal no matter what…. just learn to live with it…. soo smart, thinking like that is gonna have you and Lillie turning Natchez into New Orleans……. • Eggplant

You were just screaming for gun control a week ago. What changed your mind?

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

Your exactly correct but you must have a incorrect understanding of gun control?!! The president and leaders hasn’t said anything about taking all guns but to take guns out of the hands as that of all assault weapons as that as the AR 15 with long magazines ,goozies, AK47 or anything with long magazines!! Citizens have their shotguns , rifles, without long clips and hand guns that are not in this group of weapontry that the goverment and the majority of the Nation wanting more gun control and control people getting guns(registration) to be check out more better !!

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

Yes, its bad when the Salvation Army left Natchez when broke-in all the time and the NPD never helped them!! These people were in Natchez all my life I guess till then and I’m 65 years old and it tells the story of the crime in Natchez today!!

  • vilou09

    Goozies…. lol

Dude, you should really invest in a dictionary and an eighth grade English book. smh

There you go with that whole “Ban his, but don’t ban mine” routine. It’s a slippery slope. Be careful what you wish for. Diane Finstein is the one pushing this through, and you should see what she has said about guns. She won’t be happy until all guns are taken away from all the citizens. On the other hand, she has a concealed carry permit, so she also believes in the “Ban his, but don’t ban mine.”

O.K., so let’s do a hypothetical situation. Let’s say that they ban assault weapons and large magazines and call for voluntary turn-ins. After that, they need to make sure they got them all. They decide that they don’t need a search warrant, because they already did away with that during the Bush administration. Besides, what judge would issue a blanket search order for the whole USA?

There aren’t enough law enforcement officers to search every residence and business in the US, so they have to get the military to step in and lend a hand. They knock on your door and then bust it in. They do a complete inventory of all your weapons and tell you that you have 5 days to register them or you go to jail. If they find a magazine over the limit, they haul you to jail for not turning it in. You are now a felon and cannot own any weapons. Are you O.K. with this, because I am not.

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

Food for thought, did you see in Los Angles Calif. where people were turning their guns in for money and there was two grenade rocket launchers turned in!! The weapons that were registered as they were suppose to by law the goverment will know where to go too but the ones that don’t come forward and get caught will get into a humbug. Something has got to happen to improve gun control in this nation and soon!!

  • https://plus.google.com/101785462960818953428/posts Wilson Phillips

Everyone keeps talking about having guns that are registered. This has to stop. The US does not have gun registration. If you own guns, they are not registered. Period.

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

This gun registration started in the 70′s for I worked then and had to register ever gun sold to whom ever was a federal law and sometimes the FBI would check our registration books at random times and check what guns we had in stock!! There are a lot of guns that are out there that wasn’t register till the 70′s and this was only new guns but pawn shops and other were suppose to register old guns since that law in the 70′s.

You, sir, are a liar. There is not now, nor has there ever been, a federal gun registry. Just stop. Anybody here can use Google to find out for themselves that you are full of crap. We have already had this conversation. You could not produce the legislation you speak of because it does not exist. There weren’t even any laws passed at all in the 70s regarding personal ownership of guns at all, much less one dealing with registration. As Wilson stated, no private citizen in this entire country has their guns registered with the federal government because so such program exists. Why you insist on making a fool of yourself is beyond me.

Dave is defending the thief because he suspects the thief was black and white people are criticizing him. It is that simple.

One can buy an inert rocket launcher at many military surplus stores. It is essentially just a tube. Be honest, you don’t know much at all about weapons, do you?

I don’t understand where people get this crazy idea that we have gun registration. At least once a month, someone will tell me that they have a gun that is registered in their name. I have to explain to them that there is no federal gun registration in the United States of America. Never has been. They are always shocked to learn the truth.

I bought a nice little Smith & Wesson Bodyguard38 and gave it to a friend as a gift. She had been in a very abusive relationship and needed some protection. The first thing she said was, “But it’s registered in your name. If I have to use it, they will come looking for you!” I asked her where she got that idea. She told me, “From the cop shows on TV.” I had to set her straight.

People need to know this, because if they wrongly think that we have always had it, then the government will get little resistance when they try to pass it into law. Learn the truth.

There are a few states, such as Massachusetts, and Illinois that have state gun registration, but we see how well that has worked.

Is you a mind reader ????? I think you got special powers!!!!!!

Kind of like Miss Lillie Sanders…….Dey call dat a cycle I think, but anyway you sir is racist!!!!!

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

You are full of yourself to understand the real but place yourselve as a authority of all things!! I don’t write things of untruth for look at the people in the New York area that are being posted in the local newspapers having firearms with their names and address stem from the federal law of registration in the 70′s so you best better go back to your research !! As far as calling people names describe your character and it makes me think you are of a very low self esteem and might ought to get professional help. I do hope you feel better and Happy New Year and good luck to you!!!

  • http://www.natchezdemocrat.com khakirat

The lady was right at what she said and if the people done as the law regulated that sold you the 38 pistol you would be called on if a incident ever happen. You are suppose to have had the registration changed to the lady if you gave it to or sold it!
