NATCHEZ — Pepper Taylor and Mary Frances Sessions scored two goals apiece as the Cathedral Lady Green Wave defeated the Wesson Lady Cobras 7-1 Friday night at D’Evereux Stadium.

Taylor was one of five seniors recognized on Senior Night and one of three seniors who scored in their final home game of the regular season. Zoe Flattman and Kimble Devening scored one goal each, as did junior Maddy Christian.

“They moved the ball fantastic. I moved everybody around. We gave everybody a chance to play,” Lady Green Wave head coach Kate Ellard said. “It really showed the talent we have on this team.”

Cathedral used three different goalkeepers in the game. Anna Margaret Foster started and played in the entire first half. Mollie Devening, another senior, as well as Kayla Cauthen saw time at goalkeeper in the second half.

The five seniors that were recognized for the Lady Green Wave were Mollie Devening, Kimble Devening, Flattmann, Ashley Sandel and Taylor.

Next up for the Lady Green Wave (4-1 in division play) is a big game at Franklin County Friday at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that game will be the division champion and will host a first-round playoff game, while the loser will be the runner-up and will be on the road in the first round.

Cathedral boys 4, Wesson 3 (5-4 in shootout)

Cathedral’s Daniel Garrity stole the show in the penalty kick shootout Friday night. The Cathedral keeper netted Cathedral’s fifth goal in the shootout and then moved into the net and saved the subsequent Wesson shot to secure a 4-3 win for the Green Wave.

Kyle Bradley was the hero for Cathedral during regulation. The senior scored two goals. Trey Hand added his first career score, but Wesson was equal to Cathedral in regulation.

The win puts the Green Wave at 2-3 in district. They will face Adams County Christian School Wednesday.
