Prep hoops roundup: WCCA boys, girls both lose

WOODVILLE ­— The Wilkinson County Christian Academy boys’ basketball team was overmatched Thursday night when it faced Brookhaven Academy.

Brookhaven jumped out to a 30-13 lead by halftime and cruised to beat the Rams 62-22.

“It’s been awful against (MAIS) AA opponents,” WCCA head coach David Wright said.

Dra Tolliver led the Rams with eight points on the night, but his team was not able to keep up with 11 Brookhaven players that scored, led by Gage Posey’s 13 points.

By the end of the third quarter, WCCA trailed 50-15 before being outscored 12-7 to end the contest.

The loss dropped the Rams to 4-10 overall this season, but they are doing much better in MAIS District 6-A play with a record of 4-1.

“Were doing fine in Single-A,” Wright said. “We’ve just struggled when we play up (in classification.”

The Rams will host Amite School Center Tuesday.

Brookhaven girls 45, WCCA 18

Madison Warren finished with 19 points as Brookhaven Academy eased past the WCCA girls’ basketball team Thursday night.

Brookhaven dominated the first three quarters of play and led 37-10 heading into the final period. WCCA tied the fourth period 8-8, but still took a 45-18 defeat.

Brandi Norwood led the Lady Rams with 7 points, and Lauren DeJean and Carmen Cavin each scored four points.

The loss dropped WCCA to 3-15 on the season. The Lady Rams will face Amite School Center Tuesday.
