Cathedral falls to Bogue Chitto

NATCHEZ — Cathedral Green Wave head coach Peter Arnold couldn’t have been more disappointed in his team than he was during the first half of Friday night’s game against the Bogue Chitto Bobcats.

Cathedral scored just 13 points the entire first half and trailed by 17 points at halftime. And despite its best effort at what would have been a stunning comeback win, the Green Wave fell short and lost to the Bobcats 58-49 to remain winless in MHSAA Region 7-1A.

“It was a game of two halves. The first half, it looked like we were sleepwalking. It was lethargic. I was so frustrated,” Arnold said.

The Green Wave trailed the Bobcats 16-4 after one quarter of play and 30-13 when halftime arrived. And it didn’t look like Cathedral had even a remote chance of getting back in the game. But a change in defense allowed the Green Wave to do just that.

“We went full court man-to-man the entire second half, and we played with more energy. We had every chance to come back,” Arnold said. “As frustrated as I was at halftime, I was equally proud of how we played in the second half.”

Cathedral cut Bogue Chitto’s lead down to single digits, but was never able to get over the hump. The Green Wave missed 18 free throws and that was another factor in the outcome of the game.

“We dug ourselves too deep of a hole to come back from 17 down,” Arnold said. “Everybody played their hearts out the second half.”

Sam Fury led the Green Wave with 17 points, Jardarius Anderson added 14 points and R.J. Givens had nine points. Dennis Rogers led the Bobcats with a game-high 20 points while Damien Terrell had 14 points and Jeremiah Perkins scored nine points.

Cathedral (6-15, 0-6) plays host to rival St. Aloysius Tuesday night.

The Cathedral Lady Green Wave got off to a rough start against Bogue Chitto and was never able to recover as they fell to the Lady Bobcats in MHSAA Region 7-1A action Friday night.

Against the No. 2 ranked team in Class 1A, Cathedral couldn’t get into any type of rhythm offensively in the opening quarter and ended up scoring just two points. Bogue Chitto then took a 19-10 lead into halftime before breaking the game open by outscoring the Lady Green Wave 12-4 in the third quarter for a 31-14 advantage.

Sarah Beth Willard led Cathedral in scoring with eight points and Akua Kumi added six points. Bogue Chitto was led by Zariah Matthews with 12 points and Earinesheia Dillon had nine points.
