MONTEREY — Services for Fred Dalton Jones, 74, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Monterey Baptist Church with the Rev. Mack Walker, the Rev. Byron Gray and the Rev. John Rushing officiating.

Burial will follow at White’s Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Jones was born Jan. 22, 1939, in Acme, La., the son of Milton and Mary Jones. He was a river boat captain and a member of Monterey First Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones loved his family dearly. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Boyd Jones, Charles Jones and Wayne Jones; and one sister, Rachel Green.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sadie Jones; one son, Glenn Borden of Quinlan, Texas; three daughters, Renee Robertson, Karri “Cookie” Smith and husband, Danny, all of Monterey and Pat Pecanty and husband, Skeeter, of Austin, Texas; one brother, Kenneth Jones of Metairie, La.; three sisters, Catherine Bernard of Marksville, La., Mary Green of Ferriday and Rhonda Jacques of Fort Walton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Verl “Boo Boo” Day, Tyler Myers, Vince Green, Lorne Green, Mike Jones and Steve Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be his cousin and best friend, Justin Jones, Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick and the Happy Heart Sunday School Class.
