Stop and smell the roses with NGC

Published 12:47 am Thursday, February 7, 2013

Finally, Punxsutawney Phil poked his little head up into a cold February morning and did not see his shadow! After years of being diagnosed with six more weeks of winter, spring is (hopefully) only days away. Why not start out the new and upcoming season with an afternoon of flowers and beauty with the Natchez Garden Club?

The ladies of the Natchez Garden Club would like to invite everyone to stop by Magnolia Hall located on the corner of Washington and Pearl streets from 2 to 4 Saturday afternoon to tour through the house, which will be bedecked with gorgeous arrangements and décor for this year’s flower show.

This year’s event is themed “Magnolia Memories” and is chaired by Mrs. Will K. Austin, Mrs. David New Jr. and Mrs. D. Wayne Rabb. Each of these ladies believes that this flower show will be a real treat for everyone, especially those involved in the competition.

With the newest members of the garden club taking the reins of the décor and arrangements at this year’s show, the possibilities are endless for new and interesting tablescapes and more.

As a new member of the Natchez Garden Club and a participant in this year’s flower show, I am happy to be involved in making sure that our club’s traditions are continued on to the next generation. My last experience in a flower show was quite a few years ago as a member of the Natchez Garden Club’s junior gardeners. With my mother helping me learn the ins and outs of proper arrangement and the how tos of keeping an arrangement seasonal, I was lucky to have learned some wonderful tips that will surely be helpful this weekend when I get back into the flower show.

While this is not my first adventure into the world of horticulture and the meticulous art of floral arrangements, I am excited to learn something new and take part in this event. Hopefully, each of you will take a break from your busy weekends to join the members of the Natchez Garden Club and take some time to stop and smell the roses.
