Lawmaker’s decisions can hurt image

Published 12:03am Friday, February 8, 2013

Just when we thought it was safe to declare: “Mississippi has changed, we’re no longer living in the past and trying to live by our own set of rules,” ignorance reared its hard, ugly head.

A bill proposed in the Mississippi House of Representatives would have allowed the State of Mississippi to nullify federal laws that its citizens don’t like.

Who wouldn’t like to just decide which laws to follow and which could be ignored?

Clearly such a bill would go against the U.S. Constitution’s supremacy clause, which puts forward that the Constitution, federal treaties and statutes are the supreme law of the land. In layman’s terms, states cannot decide to ignore federal laws.

Common sense does, sometimes at least, win out over ignorance even in Mississippi government.

Fortunately, the bill was killed before it ever made it out of committee.

Unfortunately, the bill hung around long enough to garner some national attention — read: ridicule.

Mississippi lawmakers should realize that everything they do is under not only the microscope of constituents, but also national scrutiny, too.

Mississippi has enough problems overcoming the stigma of its past without ignorant lawmakers thinking they can repeat the mistakes of the past without repercussions.

The federal government is not always right.

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution,
nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States
    respectively, or to the people.”

The President can not make Federal Law by simple declaration of Executive Order. This response by Mississippi, Virginia and other states was to the claim by those in the admin that Obama would institute gun control by executive order, which would be patently unconstitutional and an executive power-grab. Laws are made in Congress and even there they are not always Constitutional.

Just because the Feds do it does not make it right or legal. It is completely laughable that you refer to MS as “ignorant” in this editorial that looks like it was written by a “low-information voter”. Kudos to MS and other states for actually standing up to the federal juggernaut with regard to people’s rights. God knows the news media isn’t going to do it. Quite the opposite, they are complicit in the destruction of personal liberties in this nation as the leftist stooges they are. No wonder their approval ratings are only slightly higher than Congress’.

Limiting certain types of firearms is not infringing on anyone’s right to bear arms. They are not seeking to disarm the public. No one’s pistols, rifles, or shotguns are included in that ban.

These three comments remind me of the history of Pres. Andrew Jackson and Pres. Abe Lincoln with people and always in the south(which I’m a breed southerner) and its the people that don’t want to go along with the program or laws is amazing!! You would think as my Mother always said study your history for it repeats itself so you shouldn’t make the same mistakes!! Looking at a lot of the Southern states have republican governors and legislatures with poor public school systems, large percentage of its people poor and out of work with states fighting Obamacare and anything Pres. Obama does to fighting gun control !! Even Perry the governor of Texas mention to succeed from the Union as back before the Civil War which speaks for Perry for as dumb as he was running for president trying to answer questions was a comedy special huh”??!! This republican bunch that took over will possible set Ms. back for 20 years!! But listen to the health state exchange of Ms that the Gov. Bryant and Chaney the insurance commissioner with both of them suppose to be friends and republicans and couldn’t work together so Uncle Sam said the feds will take care of it!! Yes, these ignorant republicans is killing the economy of Ms. by being so dumb and defiying the government of our nation and if you forgot you and I are part of this federal government!!! Get off your high horse big folks for your acting like kids isn’t helping our state of Ms. and maybe it would be best for you to put the dunce hat on and set in the corner and take inventory!!

GOOD MORNING MR. MAN. WHY DID YOU CLOSE THE COMMENT SECTION UNDER THE ARTICLE ” ATTORNEY IN FORDE TRIAL ” ? WAS IT SOMETHING PERSONAL ? MANY PEOPLE THAT ALWAYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT MOVE TO THE ALASKA WILDERNESS AND LIVE ON THERE OWN. THAT WAY THEY DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THERE’S MANY REASON FOR HATING THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, SOME OF THOSE REASON: BECAUSE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT STEPS IN WHEN NEEDED. PEOPLE LIKE YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WHEN IT COME TO HELPING OTHERS. WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT *HELPING* PEOPLE, YOUR MIND FALLS ON THE MINORITY. YOU DON’T LIKE THE IDEAL THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DECLARED MARTIN LUTHER KING BIRTHDAY A NATIONAL HOLIDAY. YOU THAT SAME SUCKER THAT DIDN’T LIKE THE IDEAL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FORCING DESEGREGATION IN SCHOOLS. PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW ALL OF THE REASON PEOPLE LIKE YOU ALWAYS HATING ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THAT’S THE WAY ALL OF THOSE RED NECK REPUBLICANS THINK ABOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. TO ME, PEOPLE SHOULD ALWAYS WORK ON HOW TO MAKE THERE LIVES MORE RELAXING. IF YOU MOVE TO THE ALASKA WILDERNESS YOU WILL BE MORE RELAXING, IT WILL ONLY BE YOU AND THE ANAMALS. THEY’RE BE LOOKING FOR FOOD AND YOU’RE BE LOOKING FOR FOOD. MAY THE BEST ONE WIN.

Yes. History repeats itself. Let’s take a god look at the history of gun control.

    Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50). Over 50 million dead.
Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1939-1945). ~12 million dead.
Jozef Stalin (USSR, 1932-39). 6 million dead.
Ismail Enver (Turkey, 1915-20). 1,200,000 Armenians. .350,000 Greek Pontians and 480,000 Anatolian Greeks. 500,000 Assyrians
Pol Pot (Cambodia, 1975-79). 1.7 million dead.
Kim Il Sung (North Korea, 1948-94). 1.6 million dead.

Heck, let’s go farther back. Let’s go back to Roman times. They only had swords and spears. The Emperor had his armies and guards, but the common people were not allowed to carry weapons of any kind. Say something against the Emperor and the guards would come take you away. You just might end up in the lions’ den as food.

You see? It’s not just gun control. It is weapon control. It is about making the population defenseless, so that the government can have total control of the masses. Keep that hat handy, you might need it.

You don’t believe that they want to take all of the guns? Look again.

“US Senator, If I could have banned them all – ‘Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns’ – I would have!”
    - Diane Feinstein, Statement on TV program 60 Minutes, Feb 5, 1995

    “I’m handgun control International.”
    – Ted Kennedy

“If I had my way, sporting guns would be strictly regulated, the rest would be confiscated.”
    - Nancy Pelosi

THE WAY YOU AND I SEE MS. IS LIKE DAY AND NIGHT WITH ME BEING NIGHT. I HOPE YOU HAVE AT LEASE A LITTLE COMMON SENSE WHY MS. IS LISTED THE LOWES OF THE LOW. YOU ARE WORKING DAY AND NIGHT TRYING TO ROLL ON WHAT YOUR ANCESTOR STARTED. YOU CAN PRETEND ALL YOU WANT, BUT HISTORY DON’T LIE. IT’S ONLY ONE RACE THAT’S RESPONSIBLE FOR MS. IN THE MUD. YOU ARE ONE OF THE LOST ONES OF YOUR RACE. YOU DON’T KNOW IF YOU ARE GOING OR COMING MOST OF THE TIME. LET ME SHED A LITTLE LIGHT ON SOME THINGS THAT HAPPEN AND I LOVED EVERY BIT OF IT. I’VE SEEN A COUPLE OF RACIST FAMILY KIDS MARRIED A MINORITY, TO ME THAT WAS JUST LIKE MOM’S APPLE PIE ON A SUNDAY. I’VE ALSO SEE FAMILY THAT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH L.B.T.’S. KIDS END UP BEING ONE OF THE THREE. NOW THAT WAS LIKE MOM PECAN PIE ON SUNDAY. I GET CHEER BUMPS FROM SITUATION LIKE THAT FOR *ONE* REASON ONLY, “PEOPLE THAT HAVE A PROBLEM EXCEPTING PEOPLE AS PEOPLE”. THEY REALLY THINK THEY ARE THE DECIDER.
