MONTEREY — Both of Monterey High’s and Block High’s varsity basketball teams have some stiff competition in the first round of the LHSAA Basketball Playoffs next week.

And if that wasn’t enough, all four teams will be on the road in the first round. The Block Lady Bears are the No. 23 seed in the Class 1A girls’ bracket and will play at No. 10 seed St. Edmund Monday at 7 p.m. The Monterey Lady Wolves are the No. 22 seed in the Class B girls’ bracket and will visit No. 11 seed Bell City at a time to be determined on Monday.

The first round of the boys’ playoffs get under way Tuesday. The Monterey Wolves are the No. 17 seed in Class B and will play at No. 16 seed Florien at 6 p.m. The Block Bears are the No. 22 seed in Class 1A and will have a familiar first-round opponent – No. 11 seed and District 4-1A rival Northwood-Lena at 7 p.m.
