Join us for informative, uplifting tea

Yes, it has been 11 years since the inception of the “Survivors Tea” in the Miss-Lou. It really does not seem as if it has been but because of the support from the community, God’s Angelic Warriors have been in the area doing what we can to support persons and families who have  been affected by cancer.

The tea is one of the ways GAWs allow the community to be participants in the fight that we as warriors are so totally  devoted.  The theme this year is a continuation of the “Tucker Family Banquet”  that is hosted each year in October at the Broadmoor Community Center: “Remembering Those Who Lost the Fight:  Let’s Stomp out Cancer”.

The warriors have been blessed that all of us are still survivors since the last tea, however we have lost (not a survivor) one of our die-hard-supporters, Mrs. Thelma Angelethy.  She had been a supporter since the formation of the group by Demetria Reed and Evelyn Smith  and participated in all of our events,  We will truly miss her input, fellowship and support. Mrs. Levater White lost the battle we were supporters to her. Both of these and other families are in our prayers and thought.

The tea will be informative and has been planned to allow the community to interact with the survivors in many ways. It is one you will not want to miss. The place as usual will be the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, 207 Parker Street. The GWAs are very appreciative to the church congregation for partnering with us for such a worthwhile cause. We thank them for the use of their facilities.

Dr. Bernedette Sherman will be the guest speaker and Ms. Carla Irving will lift our spirits in song.

The memorial period will include (these were members of GWA) but not limited to:  Mr. Pink Smith, Mrses. Joyce T. Davis, Eddie Bell Fleming, Carol Merritt, Jimmie Lee Townsend, Jessie Reed, Ethel “Peaches” Clark and Chiquita Reynolds Kettley.

Door prizes will be given, a raffle of interest and use, and a birthday celebration for survivor Thelma Thompson White who will be celebrating her 90th. So as you can see the tea is informative and fun packed. Starting at 3 p.m., you will be out in time to attend any of the other activities you have planned for the evening.

We hope to see you at the tea but if for some reason you will not be able to do so, please give your donation to me or the warrior who invited you. Make your check or money order to the American cancer society. In the memo section write God’s Angelic Warriors. Your donation is tax deductable and will assist the God’s Angelic Warriors team at the Relay for Life on May 3-4, 2013 at the relay in Vidalia. Our team is the only team made up of survivors.

On May 3-4, 2013, we would you to join us in our family/supporter walk at the relay. We will have the usual homemade “Angelic Tea Cakes and Tea.” Our T-shirt order will be taken at the tea. They are $10 and $12.

We pray that cancer will be stomped out in our lifetime.
