JENA, La. — The Vidalia Lady Vikings had a rough game Monday afternoon against the Jena Lady Giants in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.

Vidalia only had one hit off Jena junior pitcher Darian Thacker. Its pitchers gave up 10 hits and the defense committed three errors, all of which added up to an 11-0 Lady Vikings loss to the Lady Giants in five innings.

Jena jumped out to a 2-0 lead on K.C. Toler’s two-run double off starting pitcher Taylor Rodgers in the bottom of the first inning. After that, Rodgers settled down and gave up no runs over the next two innings.

But in the bottom of the fourth, Rodgers ran into trouble and Jena took advantage. The Lady Giants ended up scoring seven runs in that frame to take a 9-0 lead. Rodgers ended up allowing nine runs and struck out eight in four innings and was charged with the loss.

Thacker, on the other hand, went the distance and struck out seven batters to pick up the win. Laura Perilloux came on in relief to start the fifth inning and Jena picked up where it left off against Rodgers. The Lady Giants scored two runs off Perilloux, who lasted just one-third of an inning before the game ended on the 10-run-after-five mercy rule.

Kourtney Bacle went 2-for-4 with a double and Emilee Howard was 2-for-3 with a double for Jena.

Vidalia (6-4, 1-2) steps out of district play at 4 p.m. today when it hosts Delhi for a varsity doubleheader.
