VIDALIA — Alan Doyle held Block to just three hits and struck out eight batters as the Vidalia Vikings rolled to a 12-2 win over the Bears in five innings Friday afternoon in Day 1 of the 2013 Vidalia High School Baseball Tournament.

Doyle went the distance and allowed two runs, one of them earned, and walked two batters. And he got plenty of run support form a Vidalia team that used the long ball plenty of times.

Block scored one run in the top of the second inning to make it a 2-2 game before the Vikings started to put the game away with a four-run rally in the bottom of the second. Roper Craft had an RBI triple and Tyler Sandifer hit a two-run home run. Then Vidalia plated three runs in the bottom of the third inning, which included a two-run, inside-the-park home run by William Handjis.

Garrett Rehms capped off the long-hitting clinic with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth. The Vikings scored three runs in that half-inning and Doyle pitched a scoreless top of the fifth that ended the game on the 10-run-after-five-innings mercy rule.

Dakota Hunt had a triple, Cole Cangemi had a double and Craft went 2-for-3.

Day 2 of the Vidalia Tournament will see Block in action once today and Vidalia twice. Block (record not available) plays at 2 p.m. against Monterey. Vidalia (6-4) takes to the field at 10 a.m. against Sicily Island and again at 6 p.m. against Cathedral.
