NATCHITOCHES, La. — After being blanked in the first three innings, St. Mary’s batters came alive in the next three innings against Block pitcher Micahla Hughes as the Lady Tigers took a 9-0 win over the Lady Bears Tuesday afternoon in an LHSAA District 4-1A game.

It was a pitchers’ duel between Hughes and St. Mary’s Renee Lafitte during those first three innings as neither team was able to get a runner across home plate. Lafitte continued her dominance over the final four innings as she held Block to just total hits.

Hughes, on the other hand, ran into trouble. And that started when the Lady Tigers plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. She did do better an inning later, limiting St. Mary’s to just one run. However, the Lady Tigers struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hughes gave up five earned runs on nine hits with just one strikeout in six innings.
