Home run dooms Block Bears

MONTGOMERY, La. — Taylor Perron held Montgomery to just five hits, but one of those was a game-winning home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Tigers defeated the Block Bears 6-5 Monday afternoon in an LHSAA District 4-1A game.

Block rallied from an early 1-0 deficit by scoring one run in the top of the third inning to make it a tie ball game and then took the lead after plating two runs in the top of the fifth. However, Montgomery used a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab a 5-3 lead.

But the Tigers could not hold on to that lead as Perron tried to help his own cause by hitting a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning that made it a 5-5 game. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Tigers won the game on a solo homer by B. Atkins.

Block (6-10, 0-4) plays again at 4 p.m. Thursday against St. Mary’s.
