DEVILLE, La. — Jessica Johnson, Paris Hernandez and Hannah Roberts each hit home runs for Buckeye in the bottom of the first inning as the Lady Panthers defeated the Vidalia Lady Vikings 9-0 in five innings Monday afternoon in LHSAA District 3-3A action.

Buckeye was already leading 1-0 when Johnson hit a two-run home run that made it 3-0 in favor of the Lady Panthers. The next batter was Hernandez and she belted a solo shot for a 4-0 lead. Roberts added a solo home run later on in the inning for a 5-0 lead.

That would be plenty of run support for winning pitcher M. Kayla Brown, who allowed just one hit, struck out nine and walked none in five innings. She also went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Brittany Derbonne was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

The only player to reach base for Vidalia was Savannah McCarver, who had a double and reached on an error. Laura Perilloux took the loss as she gave up nine runs on 14 hits with only one strikeout and two hit batters in four and one-third innings.

Vidalia (15-9-1, 3-6) next plays at 4 p.m. Thursday at home against Avoyelles in the regular-season finale.
