DODDRIDGE, Ark. — Services for Michael Ed Harrist, 61, of Doddridge, Ark., who died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the Veterans Hospital in Shreveport, La., were 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Doddridge with the Rev. Gary O’Day officiating.

Burial will be today at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Slidell, La., under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home in Texarkana, Ark.

Mr. Harrist was born Dec. 14, 1951, in El Campo, Texas, the son of Robert B. and Lucy Harrist. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Mr. Harrist was a licensed electrician and electronics technician. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Christian Michael Harrist.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Rebecca Harrist; two daughters, Dawn Ashburn and husband, Mark, and Cheryl Wright; one granddaughter, Rebecca Sapp and husband, Ben; four grandsons, Adam Hollis, Nicholas Sturgill, Trey Wright and Schyler Wright; one granddaughter, Courtney Sturgill; one great-grandson, Baylor, all of Crossville, Tenn.; one sister, Alice Hamby of Monterey; seven nephews; and two nieces.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Disabled American Veterans or Mount Zion Cemetery Fund.
