Cathedral softball loses to Bogue Chitto 1-0

BOGUE CHITTO — Rheagan Welch pitched a complete-game shutout and struck out six batters to lead the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats to a 1-0 win over the Cathedral Lady Green Wave Monday afternoon in MHSAA Region 7-1A action.

Welch walked three batters and the defense behind committed two errors, but she limited Cathedral to just two hits — a single each by Mollie Devening and Claire Upton.

The only run of the game turned out to be an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning on a passed ball after a single and an error put the runner in scoring position.

It was indeed a tough loss on the mound for Devening despite holding the Lady Bobcats to just three hits and only one walk while striking out four in six solid innings.

Cathedral (10-7, 1-3) takes to the field again at 6 p.m. today when it hosts St. Aloysius.

Block 8, Northwood-Lena 5

JONESVILLE — Blake Colclasure hit two home runs for Block and the Lady Bears needed them as they held on to defeat the Northwood-Lena Lady Gators in an LHSAA District 4-1A game Monday afternoon.

Winning pitcher Micahla Hughes allowed five runs, only one on them earned, on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts. She helped her cause by hitting a home run. The Lady Bears broke a tie ball game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. That was followed by two runs in the bottom of the fourth and one in the bottom of the fifth as Block opened up an 8-3 lead.

Colclasure ended up going 2-for-3 while Maura Cooper was 2-for-4 and Shauneisha Crumpton and Shea Boothe each had a double for the Lady Bears.

Block (11-14-1, 5-3) has a 4 p.m. game today at home against Monterey.
