Bogue Chitto beats CHS in extra innings

NATCHEZ — Bogue Chitto’s Rheagan Welch won a pitchers’ duel against Cathedral’s Mollie Devening Friday afternoon, but only after the Lady Bobcats scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning for a 4-2 win over the Lady Green Wave.

Welch allowed eight hits, struck out 10 batters and walked two. Devening gave up seven hits, struck out five batters and walked just one. Both teams scored one run in the first inning and one run in the seventh inning.

The difference was Bogue Chitto had four doubles in the game. One of those was by Mattie Avants, who went 3-for-4 and drove in a run. McKenzie Milligan 3-for-3 with a double and Devening tried to help her cause by going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Cathedral (11-7, 2-4) next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a home game against Enterprise.
