In girls doubles, Wesley Callaway and Paige Foster fell to St. Joseph Catholic School, 1-6, 1-6. Taylor Beesley won her girls singles match against Tupelo Christian, 6-1, 6-2, and mixed doubles partners Sarah Beth Willard and Mark Iles defeated West Lincoln, 6-1, 6-0.

On Wednesday, in the semifinal round, Beesley lost to St. Al 0-1, 4-6, and Iles and Willard fell to St. Al 4-6, 1-0, 0-1.

Despite falling short, Cathedral tennis coach Kate Ellard said she was happy with how things turned out this year.

“We took a lot of younger players (to state) this year, and we also had a really good group of seniors and older players,” she said. “Everyone worked extremely hard. I had eight kids go to state, so I’m extremely proud of how everyone played.”
