DOLOROSO — Services for James “Pulpwood” Evans, 70, of Fort Worth, Texas, who died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Free Springs Baptist Church in Doloroso with the Rev. George R. Noflin officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home in Natchez and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mr. Evans was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Natchez, the son of Albert and Cathlean Evans.

He was a member of Free Springs Baptist Church.

Mr. Evans received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air Force, April 3, 1963. He was the owner and operator of Evans Auto & Sales and co-owner of Helen’s Diner, both in Fort Worth. He was also a member of a number of civic organizations in Fort Worth and was recognized as a 2010 “Outstanding Treasure” by his peers.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Jamie Lewis; and two brothers, Theodore and George Evans.

Survivors include two sons, James Frederick Evans Sr. of Natchez and Bobby R. Evans Sr. of Fort Worth; one daughter, Mary Armstead of Natchez; four grandchildren, James “Dude” Evans Jr. of Natchez, Bobby “BJ” Evans of Houston, Paul “PJ” and Jessica Armstead, both of Natchez; two brothers, Albert Evans and wife, Charlotte, of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Tommy Evans of New York City; two sisters, Adell Evans and Deloris Irving and husband, the Rev. Maurice Irving, all of Natchez; raised together as a brother and sister, Wilbert R. Bailey of Natchez and Theresa L. Bailey of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a number of loving and caring nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
