NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman required medical attention Wednesday afternoon after the dog she was caring for attacked her.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said the 74-year-old victim was keeping the dog at her residence on Oakwood Lane for a family member who was out of town.

When the woman went to feed the dog, it attacked her and she sustained bites on her hands, with one hand showing severe swelling after the attack, Ford said.

The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The dog — which was of unknown breed — was taken to the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society by Natchez Animal Control, where it will be monitored and tested for several days, Ford said.

Further information was unavailable Wednesday evening.
